Brits fly, while Europeans take the car
A new report by the Official European statistics office Eurostat reveals that 66 per cent of Irish holiday makers and 55 per cent of Brits prefer to travel by plane.
This compares to car loving Slovenians, 82 per cent of which take their cars on holiday. A total of 73 per cent of French holiday makers went "dans le voiture", 71 per cent in Spain and 67 per cent in Holland.
Meanwhile, going on holiday by train is relatively common in Lithuania and Poland (19 per cent, respectively), Latvia (17 per cent), Hungary (15 per cent) and France (12 per cent).
Travel by coach is popular in Estonia (36 per cent), Slovakia (26 per cent), Latvia and the Czech Republic (20 per cent, respectively) as well as in Poland (19 per cent).
The Greeks do it on the boat. A total of 21 per cent of Greeks traveled to holiday destinations in a boat, largely due to the fact that many Greek islands can only be reached this way.
