Christmas comes alive in York
A range of different yuletide events will be going on around the historic northern English city of York this winter, making it a great place to visit over Christmas.

From as early as November 17th each year and through until the new year, locals get into the festive spirit and set up a number of enticing markets and activities across the area, reports events service whatsonyork.

Highlights of the season in York include the St Nicholas Fayre, at which there will be gifts, crafts and food stalls, as well as plenty of other potential stocking-fillers.

For a taste of rural Yorkshire you cannot beat the December farmers' market where fine examples of quality local foods are brought into the city to be sampled and enjoyed.

There are dozens of festivals and international attractions taking place throughout the year making York a popular tourist destination.

King George VI is famously quoted as suggesting that the "history of York is the history of England" in reference to its importance to the country as a whole.
