Manchester is fast developing a reputation as one of the best places in Europe in which to celebrate the new year and with its orchestral concerts and Italian opera galas, it is little wonder.

Renowned as one of the best chamber ensembles anywhere in England, Manchester's camerata will continue the tradition of hosting a spectacular concert on New Year's Day in the city's world-class Bridgewater Hall venue.

A venue which on the previous night will have a rather different flavour, with an Italian opera event set to wow the crowds on New Year's Eve, reports travel service whatsonwhen.

If neither of these music styles is what you are looking for, Manchester could still be the place for you as the city has a thriving live music scene and a there are a host of excellent events going on throughout the year.

The MEN Arena is one of the biggest venues in the north of England where some of the most popular music acts in the world entertain vast crowds.
