Have a blast at Germany's international fireworks extravaganza
The German city's Großen Garten plays host to Hanover's annual international fireworks competition. Known as "Highlight", the event sees specialists from nations around the world competing to produce the most impressive display of the period.
Each "set" of fireworks is fired to the sound of classical music. The nights themselves are accompanied by a variety of events, including theatre, cabaret performances, concerts and an array of food and drink stalls.
Teams from Austria, Spain and Russia performed their entries in May and June, leaving groups from the Czech Republic (September 9th) and Canada (September 23rd) to perform their shows.
Tickets for the competition cost €18 for adults and €14 for concessions. The fireworks programme begins at 6pm.
Large groups of tourists visiting the fireworks shows, in groups of 20 or more, can pay just €12 per person, with every 21st person gaining free entry. For more information contact Hanover tourist information.
