Visitors to Manchester have the last laugh
Now a major draw for fans of a hilarious night out, the Manchester Comedy Festival has been growing in popularity since it began back in 2000.
The event is being staged at a variety of venues across the thriving northern city, including pubs, clubs and some international renowned theatres through until October 30th.
One of the most popular comics on British TV at the moment, Jimmy Carr, will be performing at this year's festival, he told the organiser's website: "Manchester is the town I've seen change the most. It's a fun town to play."
"A lot of towns have comedy festivals and it feels like just a bunch of gigs, but this feels like quite an event," he added.
Manchester was one of the world's first industrial cities and has a cultural history to rival any in the Europe.
