Art lovers should head to Laing
Based in the heart of the city centre, the gallery features an extensive range of vivid 18th and 19th century art, including works by William Holman Hunt and John Martin's epic piece - the Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
There is also the Barbour Watercolour Gallery which contains a variety of splendid paintings, from artists such as Edward Lear and Paul Sandby, for visitors to take in at their leisure.
In addition, there is a wide range of temporary exhibits and the chance to go on a guided tour of the gallery.
Also not to be missed is the wide range of locally-produced pottery, silver and glass, which includes items from the early 19th century.
Meanwhile, the resource centre provides tourists with the chance to learn more about the history of the Newcastle attraction.
Other highlights of the north-east city include the Angel of the North, the Museum of Antiquities and the magnificent Tyne Bridge.
