'Better value found abroad' for British families
Internet bank Egg's new retail therapy index found that 63 per cent of Brits who prefer to take holidays abroad do so in part for financial reasons.
"Going on a summer holiday is one of the biggest annual financial commitments for most households, so it is no surprise that we are increasingly trying to find ways to budget and bring the cost down," commented Alison Wright, Egg's chief marketing officer
"With the emergence of low cost airlines and the comparatively cheap prices while abroad, it is no wonder many consumers are seeking foreign shores, where they can make their holiday spending money go much further."
Egg's research has shown that the cost of taking a holiday in the UK has risen by twice the rate of inflation in the last year alone, with entertainment and recreation prices especially expensive at the moment.
