Edinburgh's majestic museums
In spite of a slightly deceiving name, the building is actually two attractions in one - incorporating the Museum of Scotland and The Royal Museum.
The latter encompasses items from the worlds of science, art and archaeology including ancient Egyptian statues, a whale skeleton and Dolly the sheep - the first successful clone of a mammal.
However, those wanting a true flavour of the principality could well find the Museum of Scotland caters to their needs as it holds historic artefacts such as the Monymusk Reliquary and a Scottish flag raised at the Battle of Culloden.
Meanwhile, with exhibits by Andy Goldsworthy, Margaret MacDonald and Eduardo Paolozzi, art aficionados of all kinds are also sure to find something for them to enjoy.
The museum also includes various guided tours, family-based activities and lectures - ensuring that a visit at any time of the year will always be informative and interesting.
