Family fun with the fab four

Liverpool gets rocking again this week as the city hosts its annual festival to celebrate its most famous sons.

International Beatle Week, taking place from August 23rd to 29th, is a celebration of the music and lives of John, Paul, Ringo and George and is sure to be fun for all the family.

First staged in 1983, the week of activities attracts as many as 300,000 visitors and this year features artists and bands from more than 45 countries, including Beatles tribute bands of course.

"The emphasis this year is on those contemporaries of the Beatles that helped shape and mould their music," a spokesman told the Liverpool Echo.

"There's The Quarrymen - featuring four of the original members of John Lennon's school band. And Tony Sheridan who backed the Beatles and
recorded with them in Hamburg."

Other bands and performers include Donavon, Merseybeats, Searchers, Swinging Blue Jeans, Undertakers, King-size Taylor, Beryl Marsden and the original Beatles drummer Pete Best.
