Summer may almost be over and the nights will be starting to draw in, but just because the colder months are on their way doesn't mean family fun isn't to be had.

And those looking for some festive cheer while spending some time on the south coast should head to Portsmouth.

Whether you've been born and bred in the city, are from one of the surrounding areas or a tourist on a short break, the annual Festival of Christmas, which is held at the beginning of every December, is sure to get everyone in the seasonal spirit.

Visitors will be able to purchase a variety of gifts and festive food and drink at what is the largest Christmas market on the south coast.

There will also be the chance to take in carol performances, while those with a Festival of Christmas ticket will be granted free entry into all the attractions at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard which includes the Royal Naval Museum and HMS Victory.

However, those who can't wait that long before going on a trip to Portsmouth should visit the eye-catching Spinnaker Tower and Southsea Castle.
