High flying family fun at kite festival

Thrill seekers could do far worse than visiting the Bristol International Festival of Kites taking place at the beginning of September.

Now in its 20th year, the International Kite Festival will take Ashton Court in Bristol by storm over the first weekend next month on September 2nd and 3rd.

An event for all the family the festival will include kites, kite-propelled sand buggies and landboarding, as well as inflatable air creations such as 30 metre long manta rays and more exotic displays such as the Japanese fighting kites.

This year also marks the 200th anniversary of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, architect of the popular Bristol landmark the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

In Brunel's honour the British Kite Flying Association is organising a special competition for innovation in kite flying.

Children will be able to enjoy kite-making workshops, while adults will be able to refresh themselves in the world's first inflatable pub which houses the festival's licensed bar.

The Bristol International Festival of Kites will take place on September 2nd and 3rd, with the public programme running from 11:00 to 17:00 daily.
