Based on William Brown Street, in the heart of the city, the gallery provides a wide range of paintings and sculptures for observation.
Among the pieces on display are 18th century paintings by George Stubbs, works by LS Lowry and 17th century pottery.
In addition, there is a host of temporary exhibitions which in the past have featured subjects as diverse as art deco ceramics, lego and ladies' fashion.
