Viking vitriolics in York

Viking vitriolics in York
For a flavour of ancient times while on a trip to York, visitors may wish to visit the city in February.

Taking place every year, the Yorkshire city comes alive as it hosts the Jorvik Viking Festival.

Lasting for five days, the annual event incorporates all aspects of the Viking way of life and includes historic walks, musical performances storytellers and workshops focusing on skills such as embroidery.

There is also a craft market, street performers and activities catered especially for young children such as puppet shows.

Meanwhile, those wanting a more active experience will be able to observe reenactments of Viking battles.

The event originates from the Viking festival of Jolablot which celebrates the end of winter and the forthcoming arrival of spring.

However, tourists who are unable to make it to the majestic city in time for the festival need not be disheartened as there are a variety of events and attractions running throughout the year to take in.

Particular highlights include The Shambles and York Minster.
