York's wondrous walls

York's wondrous walls
Dating back to the Roman times, York's city walls provide a wonderful attraction for visitors to the Yorkshire city.

Stretching around the city boundaries, it is thought that about a million visitors every year undertake the walk which encompasses some 2,000 years of local history.

With 12 plaques sculpted out of metal and stone designed by sculptors, those who take the full trek will learn about the city's history from Medieval and Victorian times right through to the modern day.

Meanwhile, a multimedia installation from inside Bootham Bar gives visitors more information about the attraction.

Tourists will also get the chance to spot other city highlights while on the walk, such as the York Minster.

And as the site is open all year round with the exception of Christmas Day, visitors will have plenty of time to walk the walls of York.

So for a wonderful weekend in York, why not walk along the city walls?
