Take a ferry to Belgium for the Bruges sand festival
The festival celebrates the beauty of sand sculpture by adorning the town with examples of the craft, with some sculptures as high as 15 feet.
This years' events, taking place between August 1st and September 17th, runs under the title of "Bruges, a story of more than a thousand years" - realising the folk tales, legends and traditions of the town in sand.
"This summer, in the station park of Bruges, visitors can view all types of fleeting sculptures, not built to withstand the test of time," the festival states on its website.
"The festival begins with an extensive program, including gigantic sand sculptures, water sculptures and a magical indoor spectacle with sound and light sculptures."
Entry to the City Centre Station Park, where the festival is taking place, costs €9 for adults and €7 for students, senior citizens and other concessions. Children under the age of 12 can get in for just €5.
