Containing the world's largest collection of the artist's paintings, the museum provides a "unique experience" according to its website, tracking Vincent van Gogh's work over his lifetime and containing material from others who lived and worked in the 19th century.

The permanent collection, the core of which was owned by Van Gogh's brother - Theo - is home to more than 200 paintings and works by Van Gogh, which span still-lifes, self-portraits and drawings.

People visiting the museum can also take advantage of temporary exhibitions centered on the work of other artists.

Tickets to the Van Gogh museum are priced at €10 (£6.70) for adults, €2.50 for those aged between 13 and 17, while under-12s can enter for free.

Opening times at the museum are between 10:00 and 18:00 local time each day. However, art lovers can stay late on a Friday when the exhibitions are open until 22:00 BST.
