Hungarian National Museum, Budapest

Budapest museum offers wide range of culture.

For a historic holiday in Europe, tourists may well wish to stop off at the Hungarian National Museum.

Based in Budapest, the building - which was built in the 19th century - holds more than one million artefacts tracking the development of the country and its peoples over thousands of years.

With exhibitions from medieval and Roman periods to Hungary's occupation during the Second World War, tourists are sure to find something for them.

Meanwhile, there are a whole host of temporary exhibitions and concert performances to take in which run throughout the year, as well as the Lapidarivm cafe which features a display of Roman, medieval and early modern inscribed stones.

In addition, the museum hosts an annual festival every May in a bid to celebrate museums and galleries across Hungary as it provides a variety of family fun.

However, for a culture crammed Budapest break holidaymakers should not just stop there.

Why not also take in the city's National Gallery and Aquincum Museum with its Roman ruins?
