Firework Display Venice
Firework frenzy in Venice.
Tourists wanting an illuminating Italian break could be well advised to visit Venice in the summer.
Every third Saturday of July, the European city comes alive as it hosts the Redentore festival, attracting both tourists and locals alike.
Although the festivities at first had a strictly religious focus - celebrating the end of a plague which took place hundreds of years ago - the annual event is now popular for its fantastic fireworks display.
During the day, thousands of people decorate altans - small wooden terraces on rooftops - and their boats which line the city's numerous canals, before heading out for something to eat at one of Venice's many cafes and restaurants.
As night descends, Saint Mark's basin fills up thousands of boats as spectators prepare for the night sky to be lit up by the beautiful firework display which takes place on the nearby island of San Giorgio.
Meanwhile, those looking to continue a fantastic holiday in Venice could be advised to take part in the city's numerous other cultural attractions such as the Peggy Guggenheim museum and the annual film festival.
