Uffizi Gallery, Florence

Florence's great art gallery.

For a fab time in Florence, culture vultures wishing to expand their horizons could be well advised to make a detour at the Italian city's Uffizi Gallery.

Occupying the top floor of a building constructed by Giorgio Vasari, organisers claim that the gallery is one of the most famous collections of paintings and sculptures in the world.

And with works on display by the likes of Raphael, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, as well as works from Flemish and Dutch painters, art aficionados of all backgrounds are sure to find something which is for them.

In addition there is also a cafe, allowing visitors the opportunity to relax with a bite to eat and take in some of the splendid views of the Italian city from the terrace.

Meanwhile, those wishing to take home a souvenir of their time spent in Uffizi will be able to pick up gifts including books and items inspired by the gallery's exhibitions at the two museum shops.

To continue an artsy vacation in Florence why not visit the Italian city in April as it hosts Fortezza da Basso - its annual craft fair.
