The Peoples Story Museum, Edinburgh

Get a sense of history with The People's Story.

For a true flavour of what the historic city was like in times gone by, tourists on a break in Edinburgh should check out The People's Story.

Housed in the 16th century Canongate Tolbooth building on Royal Mile, opposite the Museum of Edinburgh, the attraction provides various oral recollections of what life was like for people in the Scottish city from the 18th century right through to the present day.

And the museum is sure to be a full experience for the senses as visitors will be able to take in the sounds and smells of the past, with a 1940s kitchen, pub, tearoom and wash-house among the reconstructed buildings.

Meanwhile, there are numerous everyday objects and historic artefacts such as trade union banners, as well as a video presentation.

However, The People's Story is just one of many museums and galleries tourists should check out while in Edinburgh with the City Arts Centre and the National Museum of Scotland just two attractions well worth a visit.
