River Festival, Glasgow

Glasgow hosts annual River Festival.

Glasgow comes alive in the summer as the Scottish city hosts its annual River Festival.

Every July, thousands descend on the banks of the River Clyde for a weekend of nautical family fun.

Over the two-day event, visitors will have the chance to try sailing and take rided on ferries and powerboats.

Meanwhile, ships and boats will be moored up along the river allowing tourists and Glaswegians alike to step onboard and learn about the vessels which include the Glenlee, Pole Star and Tenacious - the largest square rigged tall ship in Britain.

In addition to water-based activities, there are also programmes taking place at Glasgow Science Centre and the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre.

There will also be various street theatre, dance and musical performances taking place over the weekend.

However, with more than 75,000 people enjoying the 2006 festivities those wanting to be a part of the River Festival could be advised to get down early.
