Charles de Gaulle, Lille

Lille's charming Charles de Gaulle museum.

Home to one of the most famous figures in French history, a trip to the Charles de Gaulle museum in Lille is surely unmissable for those visiting the city.

Split into three stages, the main exhibition chronicles the life of the Frenchman from his childhood to his time as a military leader and statesman.

Visitors will also be able to make use of the multimedia resources centre which offers 11 computers and a library, giving the opportunity to find out not only about de Gaulle but also the general history of the Lille area in the 19th century.

The museum also incorporates a seated forum which can be used as either an audiovisual theatre or lecture room.

Younger visitors, meanwhile, will have their own dedicated play area allowing them to learn in a fun environment.

In addition, the Princesse Rue-based town house layout offers an insight into the industrial bourgeoisie of the north of France of over 100 years ago.
