Lisbon gears up for marathon
Contrary to popular opinion, the citizens of Portugal are fairly fitness crazy and the race is one of the more popular in Europe, according to What's On When.
Some of the running world's big names will be lining up in the professional race while thousands of others will either be running for charity or simply enjoying the sense of achievement that comes with taking part.
Runners worried about 'hitting the wall' will hopefully be distracted by the magnificent views on display throughout the race.
The race starts at the Praca do Comercio and then does three circular routes, spanning east, west and north throughout the city.
Those more partial to spectating will be pleased to hear that the Dakar Rally is to start in Lisbon in the New Year before heading through Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal.
