Lisbon's music extravaganza.
Each year in July and August the Portuguese city of Lisbon plays host to parts of the Estoril Music Festival, a five-week spectacular of fine music.
The festival features a number of performances in Estoril, located nearby to Lisbon, with the Portuguese capital itself playing host to some of the bigger performances.
Roots of the music event can be traced back to 1975, when the festival was formed as part of the Estoril International Music Summer Courses. The history of the courses go back to 1962, according to the music festival's website.
The festival's emphasis is on young students and their music and this process has led to the event being blessed in the past with music from a number of talent names across fields as diverse as jazz and choral music.
Historically, Lisbon was one of the world's great ports with an important maritime presence, according to the official Portugal tourism site, Visit Portugal.
