Madrid Relic
Madrid relic displays Saint's blood.
A relic in Madrid displays the blood of a Saint in July each year as part of an annual event at the Iglesia de la Encarnacion.
The relic is thought to contain the blood of the doctor San Pantaleon who is known for being martyred for his service to God in the fourth century AD, according to Whatsonwhen.
Year on year, spectators look on as congealed blood from the relic liquefies in front of them.
Pope Paul V is thought to have bequeathed the relic in the seventh century to the Viceroy of Naples.
It was later taken in by the church since the viceroy's daughter served as a nun.
Once it has been fully turned to liquid, the relic is paraded through the church, to the fascination and delight of locals.
As well as a host of museums, galleries, gardens and shops, top attractions in Madrid include Plaza Mayor, Royal Palace, Gran Via, Parque del Buen Retiro and Plaza de Espana.
The latter square features a monument dedicated to Madrid's most famous writer, Miguel de Cervantes.
