Puerta del Sol Madrid Holiday

Puerta del Sol makes for great start to a holiday in Madrid.

For the perfect starting point to a break in Madrid, tourists should consider the Puerta del Sol.

Set in the heart of the Spanish capital, the square features a beautiful statue of former ruler King Carlos III overlooking the city's old main post office.

Visitors could also be well advised to observe the kilometer zero plaque outside the building which marks the centre of the Spanish road network

Meanwhile, the Puerta del Sol is also home to the El Oso y El Madrono. Depicting a bear eating fruits from a tree, the monument acts as the symbol of the Spanish city.

In addition the square features a number of markets with the El Corte Ingles department store also located nearby, giving visitors plenty of opportunity to pick up a souvenir.

However, those wishing for a slightly less active trip can relax with a bite to eat at one of the many local cafes and restaurants.

Madrid tourists wishing to get a further flavour of the city may also wish to stop off at the Museo del Prado which holds thousands of paintings, sculptures and drawings.
