Calais Tourist

Something for everyone in Calais top three.

Often the starting point for a holiday in France for those travelling by car or ferry, the city of Calais provides a host of attractions for visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

But with so much to see and do tourists could find a trip to Calais a little overwhelming at first.

One absolute must however is the Parc Saint-Pierre. Used for a variety of events such as open-air concerts, cycling races and fetes, visitors can take a relaxing wander through the tranquil park's beautiful setting. Meanwhile, the fountain of the three graces is a replica of one found in Versailles.

Architecture aficionados may also wish to check the stunning Notre Dame church which was the location for the marriage of former French premier Charles de Gaulle and Yvonne Vendroux in 1921.

For a further flavour of French history why not also visit the sea rescue monument? Presented in 1960, the bronze statue faces the old former maritime district of Courgain and is the base of a yearly official ceremony honouring those lost at sea.
