Something for everyone in the London top five
The Brits know their history and a number of London museums are undoubtedly among the best in Europe, but if you only visit one it really ought to be the British Museum.
With exhibits featuring the workings of early man and modern masters, and proudly displaying the Rosetta Stone and Portland Vase, the historic venue is a must-see.
Positioned on the banks of the river Thames, the Tate Modern art gallery continues to grow in popularity and features a range of classic and contemporary exhibits.
For an afternoon seeped in 900 years of local history one can take a free guided tour around the Tower of London or go even further back in time and see some of the million-year-old artefacts at the Natural History Museum.
And a trip to London in the 21st century would hardly be complete without a trip on one of the more recent additions to the city's famous skyline, the London Eye, the world's tallest observation wheel.
