Sumptuous art in Ghent abbey
As one of the largest cities in Belgium it should come as little surprise that there are a whole range of things to do while on a break in Ghent.

However, near the top of everyone's must-see list is the stunning St Peter's Abbey.

And although it has its origins as a place of worship, the abbey is perhaps even more famous for its status as one of the city's most important art exhibition facilities, with works by artists such as Octave Landuyt being among those who have been featured in the past.

Tourists, meanwhile, can also get to grips with the building's history and the numerous items held within it, thanks to a guided tour by Alison - the abbey's virtual monk.

There is also a shop offering tourists the chance to purchase books giving more information about the abbey and the city as a whole.

Other great tourist attractions in Ghent include the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Saint Bevo cathedral.
