St Mark's Square, Venice

St Mark's Square, Venice

Superb square in Venice.

Being arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world, it can surely come as no surprise that a trip to Venice provides tourists with a bevy of things to do and see.

However, with so much going on visitors should not feel overwhelmed in trying to fit everything the Italian destination has to offer into one holiday.

Top of everyone's list, however, should be St Mark's Square. Said to be the city's most famous plaza, holidaymakers will be able to watch the world go by at one of the many restaurants and cafes nearby.

But those looking for a more active time in the square should stop off at some of the beautiful buildings by which it is surrounded such as St Mark's Basilica, Procuraties and the Campanile.

Meanwhile, St Mark's is also located near the world-famous Grand Canal, giving visitors the opportunity to hop on the Vaporati (water bus) and observe the city by boat.

One of the many attractions located along the canal is the Peggy Guggenheim Collection featured at Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, which organisers claim is the country's most important museum for early 20th century American and European art.
