La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

Take time to reflect on the Unfinished Cathedral.

As one of the most well-known sites in Barcelona, la Sagrada Familia, or the Unfinished Cathedral is well worth a visit.

Work began on the enormous cathedral in 1882 and still continues today. One of the region's more famous residents, Antoni Gaudi, spent the last 15 years of his life devoted solely to this project and in total worked for over 40 years on the cathedral.

The building was designed to have a total of 18 towers, representing the 12 apostles, the four evangelists, the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ.

After Gaudi's death in 1926 work on the building stopped, but has been underway again for some time again, with builders using some of Gaudi's visions as well as those of modern architects.

This is not the only piece of Gaudi history within this fabulous city worth a visit. Park Guell's ornate landscape and structures, coupled with the views over Barcelona on offer, make it the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely afternoon.
