Lighting up the north
Considered by many to be the best free light show in the world, the annual Festival of Light now combines the traditional Blackpool Illuminations with a more contemporary look at concepts of light and art.
The long autumn nights are brought to life by the six miles of fibre-optic, LED and laser lighting and the accompanying calendar of events, with interactive installations and exhibitions explaining the technology and history behind Blackpool Illuminations.
Highlight of the autumn season in Blackpool is the Big Switch On, with thousands of people flocking to the resort to watch a celebrity switch on the lights for the first time and look at the latest display.
There are many ways to see Blackpool and its famous illuminations, including driving down the promenade, taking an open top tram, riding past them in a horse-drawn carriage or walking along with a bag of tasty fish and chips.
Blackpool has a range of attractions to offer visitors, from the excitement of the Pleasure Beach and its rides, to iconic Blackpool Tower, the seaside fun of the Golden Mile, the Piers, Blackpool Zoo and the Sealife Centre.
