Lose yourself in the sights of Marrakech

Lose yourself in the sights of Marrakech
Marrakech, located in the foothills of the Atlas mountains in south-western Morocco, is the perfect place to lose yourself and maybe even find yourself again, as you let the sights and sounds of this amazing place fill your senses.

Formerly the capital of Morocco, Marrakech is the country's second-largest city. Steeped in history it acts as a symbol of the Morocco of the past and despite attracting thousands of tourists every year it has managed to retain its unique character.

African and Middle Eastern cultures combine with modern western influence in Marrakech to create a vibrant atmosphere that is unlike anything else in the world. Its narrow, medieval streets are a sight to behold and the people are incredibly friendly.

Marrakech is famed for its huge traditional markets, or souks, and boasts the biggest one in Morocco, with colourful bazaars and numerous gifts and trinkets on sale including leather goods and spices.

As well as being a shopper's paradise it is also swarming with entertainers, who fill the main square, Djemaa el Fna, with their dancing, storytelling, acrobatics and music before the food stalls and restaurants take over in the evening offering a host of tasty Moroccan delicacies.

For those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city streets an excursion into the Atlas mountains, which act as a barrier between the northern plains and the pre-Sahara, is a must.
