More holidays taken in Wales
Tourism in the south Wales has taken a shot in the arm during the late August bank holiday, according to a Visit Wales survey.

The tourist agency's fourth annual survey discovered that Wales has had a brilliant 2006-so far, with more activity expected as the holiday season extends into autumn and winter, This is South Wales reported.

Over half of all tourist operators told the survey they had more guests or visitors during 2006 than last year. A third cited the weather as a major reason for the increase, while a quarter claimed it was their own marketing work.

"The optimism and the sheer hard work of our tourism industry has certainly paid off," said Andrew Davies, assembly minister for enterprise, networks and innovation. "Although the weather in August did not mirror the fantastic weather we had in July, visitors still came. This proves that visitors will travel for a quality experience - whatever the weather.

"I am confident our tourism industry will provide a warm welcome throughout autumn and winter and will continue to make a valuable contribution to the Welsh economy."

Around 80 per cent of tourism operators in Wales are looking forward to the future months, the report claimed.
