An African skiing adventure

An African skiing adventure
The ancient city of Marrakech in Morocco could prove an interesting stopover for someone after a sense of adventure.

Sat in the foothills of the Atlas mountains, the city has a wonderful mix of the traditional souks and bazaars for those looking to find themselves a bargain.

But for those more concerned with alpine activities, skiing on the snows of the Atlas mountains in January or February could be a welcome change from a trip to the Alps.

The nearest resort to the city lies at Oukaimeden, with both ski lifts available to carry you to a height of above 3,200 metres.

Views from the mountaintops over the country below may alone be worth the journey, whether you are a skier or not.

With the highest mountain in the range nearby and views towards the Sahara on offer, skiing in Morocco can make an interesting change from a traditional trip to the increasingly-crowded Alps.

But for those looking to stay in the city, there's nothing to beat the haggling and bartering in the city's famous markets.
